Whidden Click Adj Fl Non-Bushing Sizer Die

As handloaders have become more aware of shoulder bump and proper adjustment of the sizer die in recent years, there has become a need for an easier way to adjust the sizer die properly. Until now there have been few options other than trial and error to get the shoulder setback correct. Anyone who has done this can attest that it's a slow and imprecise job!

Whidden Gunworks has solved the problem with the new patent-pending Click Adjustable Sizer Die. This die and lock ring work together to give the user a clicking feel to the adjustment just like a high end rifle scope. Each click moves the shoulder bump .001" so you can easily find the exact shoulder bump that you desire.

Included with the Click Adjustable Sizer Die is a Shoulder Bump Gauge. This gauge attaches to standard calipers and allows measurement from the case shoulder to the base. Using the Shoulder Bump Gauge with the Click Adjustable Sizer Die will make the proper sizer die setup easier than ever before.

Click Adjustable Die Instructions:

  1. With the proper shell holder for your caliber in the press ram, raise the press ram all the way up.
  2. Screw the Sizer die into the press until it just touches the shell holder, then rotate the die counterclockwise approximately 1/3 of a turn. This is your preliminary adjustment. Screw the lock ring down snug to the press but do not tighten the pinch screw (7/64" Allen wrench) at this point.
  3. Install the supplied shoulder bump gauge on your calipers. Measure your brass to determine headspace. Note: This should be done with a fired piece of brass from the rifle you intend to reload for. Once you have the headspace measurement you can adjust the Sizer die downward (Clockwise) a click or two at a time to establish your desired shoulder bump. One-click of adjustment will result in 0.001" of shoulder bump. Continue adjusting your die down until you have bumped the shoulder the desired amount. Note: For Bolt action rifles it is recommended that you bump the shoulders back by .002". For autoloaders, your shoulder bump needs to be a little more generous of around .003" to .004".
  4. Now that you have your die set to desired shoulder bump, the die lock ring pinch screw can be tightened snug.

Note: The three slotted set screws on the lock ring have ball detents installed that control the feel of the adjustment clicks. They are factory set and should not require adjustment. If they become loose over time determine which set screw requires adjustment, make sure that the set screw detent is not over one of the detent lines in the Sizer die body. The set screw ball detents in the die lock ring are intentionally offset and will not all line up with the detent lines in the die body at the same time. Adjust the screw until tight then back off 1/2 turn or desired click.

Installing a bushing in your Bushing Sizer Die: Remove decapping assembly by unscrewing the top plug on the sizer and removing the entire assembly. Drop in the bushing (ensure you're installing per instructions on the card supplied by the manufacturer). Re-install the decapping assembly. NOTE: Do not over-tighten the top assembly plug. Allow the bushing to float as this floating action is key to prevent runout. Check the adjustment of the decapping assembly to ensure the decapping pin is protruding at the proper length. Whidden Gunworks bushing dies will accept Whidden Gunworks, Redding, and Wilson bushings.

Does not work with the Dillon 550 and 650 presses. Will work with Foster Co-Ax Press

Does not work with the Creedmoor Sports Adaptive Heads.
